Calling all Burnaby residents! It’s time to channel your inner ghoul and get imaginative with your Halloween decorations because the 2024 Burnaby Halloween Festival House Decorating Contest is back—and it’s bigger and better than ever. Whether you love spooky skeletons, eerie ghosts, or chilling tombstones, this is your chance to turn your home into a Halloween showstopper. Plus, to make it even easier to go all out this year, we’re reintroducing the House Decorating Grants to help bring your haunting vision to life!
Reviving the Decorating Grant Program
Creating the ultimate haunted house can be costly, so we’re bringing back the Burnaby Halloween Festival Decorating Grants to help make your spooky dreams a reality. Residents can apply for grants of up to $350 to help cover decoration expenses, encouraging everyone to transform their neighbourhoods into Halloween hotspots. But hurry—grants are limited, and applications are open until Friday, September 20th, 2024.
By applying for a grant, you’ll not only get support for your eerie décor but will also be automatically entered into the Neighbourhood Decorating Contest. Grant recipients will be featured on our interactive map of Burnaby’s best-decorated homes, so the entire community can come and enjoy your haunted creation!

How to Enter the Decorating Contest
The contest will officially open on October 1st, 2024, and is free for all Burnaby residents ready to unleash their Halloween spirit. Whether you’re aiming for eerie elegance or spine-chilling scares, this is your chance to create a showstopping display and showcase your creativity.
Starting October 1st, submit a photo of your decorated house on our contest page before the entry deadline on Friday, October 18th, 2024. This year, judging will be done entirely through an online voting system, open to the public. So, get your family, friends, and neighbours involved, and rally the community to vote for your haunted masterpiece!
Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, plus a special prize for the best-decorated block or neighbourhood. If you’re feeling extra competitive, why not team up with your neighbours to create a whole street of spooky displays? The more, the scarier!
Map Out Your Spooky Tour
Once you’ve submitted your entry, your house will be added to our interactive Halloween map, making it easy for residents and visitors to plan their own tour of Burnaby’s most haunted homes. This is a great opportunity to get into the Halloween spirit, connect with your neighbours, and enjoy a night of festive fun with your family.
